 Dear Alcyone Friends,

SAIL AMSTERDAM 1980

Springtime is nearing and so our planning for the summer season will become topical.

Almost four months elapsed since in Newsletter 18 your attention was required for Alcyone Rally 1980 and the Sail Amsterdam 1980 event.

For the second time the port of Amsterdam will be host to the Tall Ships and finish for the stretch Cape Skagen to Amsterdam for Tall Ships in A and B category for the summer race program arranged yearly by the International Sail Training Association.

Before and after the finish there will be a wide range of festivities in the Amsterdam Eastern Dock Area where thousands of “rond en platbodem” yachts and many other traditional Dutch sailing vessels will participate and be berthed round the beautiful 17th century building, now housing the Maritime Museum but originally the arsenal for the ships of Holland’s great naval heroes, or in the Y-haven.

The event will last from the 5th until the 12th of August and the provisional program will include:

• finish of the Tall Ships Race near Ymuiden;
• sail up to Amsterdam port, shipping exhibition, display of fireworks, finish Workum-Amsterdam Race, windsurf demonstrations,
  Muiden-Hoorn Race for “rond en platbodem” yachts.
• Official prize ceremony in the renovated Nieuwe Kerk on the DAM.
• Yacht formation sailing, admiral sailing, shamfight, harbour concert, sightseeing, etc.

Alcyone Circle ships will be present too, just as five years ago when our ships were berthed close to the Tall Ships.

The following owners gave notice of their intention to be present and from this list you will see that it is a fine presentation of Gunning ships:

You are requested to complete and sign this form and return same to the undersigned who will act as liaison and will apply for joint berthing of the Alcyone ships.

Of course, the application for participation is not limited to the 8 owners mentioned. We really wish that mor4 alcyone Circle friends will decide to bring their ships to Amsterdam to enjoy this unique event.

Please write before the end of March or let me know during the coming winter meeting in Muiden.
